Our emotions or feelings are a reflection of our goals.  When we reach a goal we automatically feel great.  We feel positive emotions, joy, happiness, elation, wonderful.  When we are blocked from reaching our goal we automatically feel badly.  We feel sad, depressed, sick, awful, angry.

We are going to feel good and bad for the rest of our lives.  Our feelings or emotions are always with us.  It is up to us learn to handle them so they work for us.

Sometimes our negative emotions can work against us.  Depression can cause us to not want to try.  Anger can cause us to make bad decisions.  So we all need some help from time to time in handling these negative emotions.

Below are these steps you can follow:

  1. 1)      Accept our emotions.  Don’t deny or repress the feelings that we have, for to do so is physically and psychologically dangerous.  Our emotions are a part of us.  Accept them!
  1. 2)      Find someone with whom we can share our feelings.  This person should have three special characteristics:  A)  He is an empathetic listener.  B)  He does not give advice unless WE ask for it.  C)  He keeps our story to himself.
  1. 3)      Seek acceptable outlets.  Usually some kind of physical activity such as racquetball, basketball or jogging will help release the physical tension brought on by negative emotions.

What are some ways that you can release your emotions?

A friend is one to whom one may pour out all the contents of one’s heart, chaff and grain together, knowing that the gentlest of hands will take it and sit it, keep what is worth keeping and with the breath of kindness, blow the rest away.
